โI attended Andrea's workshop on inflammation and I was so glad I did. What a refreshing change of pace. A knowledgeable caring professional not trying to plug some product line. The information was well presented, current, and made sense for every day life. My biggest takeaway, aside from the food pyramid, the reinforcement of it being OK for the changes we have to make to take time. That made me feel that this is a woman we can trust.โ

Does organic produce really matter?
๐ซ๐๐
This is a question I get quite often from clients about organic versus non-organic produce. How important is it really?
๐ซ๐ถ๏ธ๐ฅ
To start, it is more important that you are getting fruits and veggies IN. For anti-inflammatory benefits, we should be eating 7 - 9 servings of fruit and veggies EVERY DAY, and for longevity goals, this is more like ten or twelve. For reference, the average North American is getting ONE serving per day of fruits and veg, and if you take out fast food burgers, they are getting zero, because the lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles are counted as the 'one'. Now THAT is a bigger issue than the organic debate am I right?!
๐ซ๐ฅ๐ฅฌ
So really, it depends on where you are starting. If you are currently getting only 1 or 2 servings per day, the goal should be around getting those daily servings in first and foremost. Go from two to three for a couple of weeks and then to four, and so on and so forth until you reach the healthier numbers.

From there...yes organic is best, BUT I also recognize that it isn't always easy to get year-round (or at all) depending where you live. And furthermore, it can be quite expensive in a time where grocery bills are insanely high already. What I like to do is choose organic produce that isn't that much more expensive than regular produce - for example if organic blueberries are $5 per pint and regular is $4.75, I will choose organic. I will also not worry about produce with a thicker peel being organic such as bananas or oranges. And lastly, in the summer months I grow my own - organic soil, organic seeds, organic plants. There is such a small difference in the cost to grow it this way and I love knowing that everything I feed my family from my garden is organic and super tasty. ... See MoreSee Less
